Our Story, Vision and Values
Our mission is to provide a welcoming home, offering clean rooms, healthy organic home cooked food, and genuine hospitality, ensuring every guest feels at home, without burdening their wallet.
At Ira’s Hideaway, we are driven by a passion for hospitality and mindful travel. We have encountered the challenge of finding clean and budget-friendly accommodations during our own travels, and hence we have thoughtfully designed a home, crafted with care, where guests are treated with the same warmth and consideration we seek on our journeys.
An Eco-Friendly Home for all Seasons
Our initial motivation was to build a mud house, inspired by local architecture, known for its warmth in winters and coolness in summers, basically a house that can breathe and is different from concrete structures.
Over the years we have thoughtfully built an eco-friendly space that breathes, combining traditional techniques with modern elements like open lighting and large windows.
Inspiring traditional construction practices
By choosing to build a mud house and showcasing its spaciousness and sturdiness, We aim to inspire others in the community to reconsider conventional concrete houses.
Our commitment to local architecture not only preserves tradition but also demonstrates the practicality and sustainability of mud houses in the modern era.
Cultivating Community and Empowering
Local Livelihoods
We believe in giving back to our community. By using local labor and materials, we ensure that the money spent circulates within our village, supporting the livelihoods of our neighbours.
We have consciously chose not to contribute to big companies, opting for locally sourced materials like mud bricks and bamboo. Your stay with us is not just a visit, it’s a contribution to the prosperity of our community.
Challenges in Construction
Since we don’t buy ready made stuff from market, our construction journey involved challenges, including delays due to the unavailability of materials like bamboo, which had to be locally sourced and processed.
While we didn’t have a shelter, and was making mud bricks, we had to cover them while they hardened, even at 2 am during unusual rains to protect the structure.
Evolution of our Home
Initially, Ira left her job to build her home, taking a loan for the project.
The homestay evolved organically, starting with a modest bamboo hut, which was rented out to generate funds for the main house construction.
As the building progressed, more rooms became available, we focused on providing affordable and clean accommodations to travellers, driven by our own experiences.
Commitment to Organic Farming
Our desire for a self-sustaining lifestyle, made us utilise our land to grow fruits and vegetables, ensuring a fresh and organic supply for the home.
Guests are not only treated to organic meals but also have the opportunity to engage in farming activities, promoting a connection to nature.
Moreover, we use Bio enzyme soaps and detergents in the home and manure for plants is vermi-compost, cow dung. We use home made pest repellent from garlic, chilli and lemon peels.
